In assembling
this archive, recording artist Billy Chernoff supplied some of
his late father's record collection. One in the collection, was
this rare one-off; a record made in 1955 on a home-recording machine.
It was thought
that it was most likely Peter Fredericks who brought the machine
over to the Chernoff's house to record, but upon further investigation
it turned out that Peter (Buckskin Pete) Koftinoff had
a recording machine in the early 50s and he too at that time and
had interaction with the Grand Forks, BC (and region) Doukhobors.
Says Peter, "I did so many of them I really don't remember.
We were very good friends with old Bill" (Bill senior,
Billy's late father).
Peter Koftinoff explains, "From 1950-1958 I had a business
called Sunshine Valley Recording Club where people paid $20 a
year and they had the use of my recording equipment, along with
me. I had a lot of memmbers... It was fun!"
*This recording
has been denoised, declicked and remastered as well as these old
warn (and delicate) discs could reasonably be done. One has to
realize that the acetate coating on these discs was soft so a
vibrating record needle could encode it
