Paul
Chernoff
was born in 1922. He was a gifted singer who passed
away suddenly due to a heart attack in Grand Forks
in 1955. He was a member of the USCC Youth Choir (later
renamed to "The USCC Friendship Choir")
and contributed greatly in those years to the quality
of the singing. Paul was especially known for his
solo performances. One of his most outstanding numbers
and everyone's all time favorite was & still is
"Those Evening Bells" (Vecherniy Zvon) SRC-1166.
Paul appeared on many concert tours,on radio, he sang
at banquets and was invited to sing at various churches.
When I was 15 years old, on Sunday, Jan.18,1953 at
Fairview Baptist Church in Vancouver a "Trio"
of us girls that I belonged to, had the priviledge
of appearing together with Paul on the same program
where the church was seeking to gain a better understanding
of the Doukhobors and their culture. Representing
the USCC Doukhobors, we shared a few hymns as did
Paul. Our tour guide & spokesperson at that time
was John P. Stoochnoff of Grand Forks, B.C.
