The 78's
Tovarischi

The Tovarischi collection was by far the largest contribution to music by Doukhobors (that is, music with intrumentation). Beginning in 1954, a total of 21 records (42 sides) had been recorded giving voice to the three then-young pioneers (Frank Konken, Bill Saliken, Fred Zibin), but brought subsequent artists such as Ruby Konken, John Evin, Katie Zibin, Alex Konken, and Molly Popoff to the recording forefront.

DoukhoborMusic would like to dedicate this page to the memory of Lydia Kabatoff whose generous donation before her passing, helped make this library possible. Vechnaya Pamyat   Lydia Jean Kabatoff November 9, 1949 - June 12, 2017

* The SCR label was a custom label offshoot of the Sound Recording Company of Spokane Washington, operated by Irene and Paul Carter. The copyright date (1954) on most of the labels doesn't represent the actual date of release. Printed all at one time, it offered an inexpensive way to have titles added at a later date. In fact, some of the records that state 1954, were actually recorded and released later in 1955 through 1958.
