The 78's

The 78's
Cascade

The Cascade collection was one of the smaller collection of recordings on 78s, but influential nonetheless.

Peter Gritchen and Bill Khadikin released only three 78's during this era under the Cascade banner (constituting 7 tracks - one record had 2 tracks on one side) but because it had musical instrumentation, it was sought after by the younger audience at that time.

Though severely scratched and worn, we did receive a new 'batch' of Cascade recordings of which we administered the best job we could within our budget, in restoring these 'earthy' tunes. ...I remember saving my money from babysitting or weeding, and buying these records. I hid them from my mom and dad of course, because in those days, you didn't dare play a Doukhobor record that had musical instruments... at least not in our house. That was taboo. My friends and I waited until mom and dad went out and then we'd play them.

With the advent of the micro-groove (33 1/3 Long Play record), Peter went on to release five LPs.
